Turning a razor and brush from a log
|
Take a simple log. This one is Laburnum
|
Square it down to roughly the size you need
|
Find and mark the centre of each end
|
Indent a small hole in the center of one end
|
Gently hammer into centre to hold wood in the other end
|
Choose correct speed setting
|
Choose correct tools
|
One for Razor, one for Brush
|
Center on Lathe
|
Slow speed on lathe and use this roughing out gouge to take off square edges or make round
|
Place rounded wood in chuck and drill centre to required size, (usually 6 or 7mm)
|
Drill through
|
Check fit of metal centre rod
|
Glue if required
|
Trim off excess wood
|
Fit mandrel to lathe
|
When glue dry, place wood on mandrel
|
Support with tailstock
|
Turn to desired shape then sand
|
From course to fine
|
For a decent shine try Yorkshire Grit, work into the grain then use paper to polish and clean
|
Friction Polish can also be used
|
Polish to desired sheen
|
Repeat process for Brush
|
Fit the metal ands and brush
|
